Trump Pledges Border Security Overhaul and Travel Ban Expansion at Iowa Rally

Payam Javan: Former U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking at a rally in Dubuque, Iowa, on September 20, declared his intention to redirect federal resources away from law enforcement agencies and deploy thousands of overseas-based troops to enhance border security if he is reelected.

President Trump vowed to swiftly dismantle the Biden administration’s open borders policies upon taking office, emphasizing the need to employ all necessary resources to combat what he referred to as an “invasion,” including the relocation of troops currently stationed abroad. He also hinted at expanding a travel ban that was initially implemented during his previous term, aimed at countries with predominantly Muslim populations, citing terrorism prevention as the rationale.

However, President Trump did not provide specifics on the proposed ban expansion in his speech. He placed the blame for the surge in illegal migrant crossings squarely on the shoulders of the Biden administration, noting that the majority of these migrants hail from Central American countries, including Venezuela.
