From Farms to Stores: The Cantaloupe-Linked Salmonella Outbreak Unfolds

Payam Javan: In a concerning update on Black Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed a doubling of a Salmonella outbreak, with an additional 56 cases reported since November 17.

The total count in the U.S. now stands at 99 infections across 32 states, with 28 new hospitalizations and two deaths in Minnesota linked to the outbreak.

The Public Health Agency of Canada reported a related death and 63 cases in Canada. Cantaloupes are identified as the likely source, leading to recalls of various brands and products.

The lack of oversight on Mexican produce has raised concerns about contamination, emphasizing the need for increased control measures.

Common symptoms of Salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and headaches.
