Ballot Battle: Colorado Supreme Court Shakes Up 2024 Primary Race

Payam Javan: In a historic move, the Colorado Supreme Court disqualified former President Donald Trump from the state’s primary ballot in 2024, citing his alleged involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol breach.

The decision, passed with a narrow vote and three dissenting judges, marked Colorado as the first to bar Trump from the ballot.

Trump, addressing a rally in Iowa, made no direct response to the ruling but took to Truth Social later, sharing reactions and expressing disappointment.

The Trump campaign plans to appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court by Dec. 19, with a critical deadline of Jan. 4 for a potential ballot inclusion. Otherwise, finalized ballots without Trump’s name will be issued on Jan. 5, 2024.

The Trump campaign strongly criticized the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision, labeling it as a partisan move.

Trump highlighted his rising poll numbers and contrasted them with President Biden’s declining approval ratings.
