Payam Javan: During Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s recent visit to China, he emphasized the significant role the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) plays in supporting Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

Blinken warned that Russia would struggle to sustain its assault without Chinese assistance, citing concerns over Beijing’s provision of crucial components to Moscow’s defense industry. This comes amid escalating tensions between the U.S. and China, with Washington renewing efforts to engage with Beijing to prevent unintended conflicts.

Additionally, discussions centered on bilateral dialogues on artificial intelligence, with both nations set to address concerns regarding AI risks and safety measures. However, Blinken also criticized China’s unfair trade practices and industrial overcapacity, which have adverse effects on global markets and threaten American jobs.

Despite calls for partnership, the U.S. remains vigilant about differences, including human rights issues, as highlighted by Blinken’s mention of detained American citizens and erosion of autonomy in regions like Hong Kong and Xinjiang.
