Payam Javan: On March 4, 2025, the United States implemented new 25% tariffs on all imports from Mexico and Canada, citing insufficient efforts by these countries to curb the flow of fentanyl into the U.S. Additionally, tariffs on Chinese goods were increased from 10% to 20% due to China’s perceived inaction in addressing the crisis.
In response, China announced retaliatory tariffs ranging from 10% to 15% on various U.S. agricultural products, including soybeans, corn, fruits, and meats. Canada and Mexico also signaled intentions to impose counter-tariffs on U.S. goods, raising concerns about a potential trade war in North America.
