Israel: Ceasefire and Hostage-Release Deal Approved

Payam Javan: Israel’s Cabinet has greenlit a ceasefire and hostage-release deal brokered by Qatar with the Hamas group.

The agreement involves the release of 50 hostages, exclusively women and children, over four days, with an additional day of respite for every 10 hostages freed. Israel asserts its commitment to continuing the war until all hostages are returned and Hamas is eliminated, ensuring no renewed threat from Gaza.

The deal, facilitated by the U.S., Qatar, and Egypt, also includes the release of 150 Palestinian detainees, with a four-day pause in fighting to allow increased humanitarian aid to Gaza.

U.S. President Biden thanked Qatar and Egypt for their leadership, vowing to persist until all American hostages are released. The deal follows weeks of negotiations and involves the release of three anticipated American hostages, including a 3-year-old girl.
