The 44-year-old artist confirmed in early 2026 that she is undergoing treatment and remains optimistic about her progress. In a statement provided to ABC News, Hamilton revealed that the diagnosis followed two bone marrow biopsies. Despite the life-altering news, she emphasized that her treatment has been effective so far. She noted that she is approaching her recovery with a positive mindset, allowing her to continue focusing on her family, her music career, and acquiring new skills.

Prior to her formal statement, Hamilton had touched upon her health struggles during an interview with the series Cadillac Chronicles. In that appearance, she confirmed she was undergoing treatment and expected the positive trajectory of her recovery to continue. She reflected on how the diagnosis has reshaped her perspective, instilling a deeper sense of gratitude and appreciation for life.

Chronic myeloid leukemia is a type of cancer that originates in the body’s blood-forming tissues, such as the bone marrow, causing the production of abnormal white blood cells. Unlike acute forms of leukemia, which require immediate and aggressive intervention due to rapidly multiplying immature cells, the chronic form typically progresses more slowly, sometimes remaining asymptomatic for extended periods before transitioning into more active phases.

Hamilton first achieved prominent recognition in the music industry following her collaboration on Mystikal’s 2001 hit “Danger (Been So Long),” which subsequently secured her a recording contract with Jive Records.
