Payam Javan: Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current CBS NFL analyst Tony Romo has been arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence in Wisconsin, according to law enforcement officials. The incident occurred on Thursday after Romo was pulled over by sheriff’s deputies in Milwaukee County.

According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Romo was stopped while driving south on Interstate 43. Authorities reported that he performed poorly on field sobriety tests, leading to his arrest, booking, and subsequent release from custody.

The 46-year-old former athlete is scheduled to make a court appearance on September 21 to address the charges. Romo has long-standing ties to the region, having attended high school in Burlington, Wisconsin, which is located about 35 miles from Milwaukee.

Since retiring from professional football, Romo has built a highly successful career in sports broadcasting, serving as the lead game analyst for CBS’ NFL coverage since 2017. Representatives for CBS have refrained from commenting on the arrest, and Romo’s team has not yet released an official statement.

During his 13-year playing career spent entirely with the Dallas Cowboys, Romo earned four Pro Bowl selections and set multiple franchise records. He remains the Cowboys’ all-time leader in career touchdown passes with 248, and held the record for career passing yards until it was broken last season by Dak Prescott.
