Trump Warns Iran Over Interim Deal Compliance Amid Disputes on Unfrozen Funds

U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that he is prepared to take necessary actions if Iran fails to adhere to the terms of the recently signed interim agreement between Washington and Tehran. The statement follows the signing of a transitional deal last week by President Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, which aimed to de-escalate tensions following a series of military exchanges involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

A key point of contention under the new agreement involves the utilization of previously frozen Iranian assets. President Trump emphasized that the released funds are intended to be spent exclusively on purchasing food and agricultural products from the United States to support the Iranian population, while simultaneously benefiting American farmers.

In contrast, Iranian officials have disputed the assertion that the funds are restricted to U.S. agricultural purchases. Abdolnaser Hemmati, the governor of the Central Bank of Iran, stated that Tehran is under no obligation to buy agricultural inputs specifically from the United States under the current memorandum of understanding, suggesting the funds could be used for other non-sanctioned goods from various sources.

The diplomatic friction highlights the fragile nature of the interim accord, which was established to stabilize regional security after months of heightened military activity. Observers note that conflicting interpretations of the financial clauses could complicate the implementation of the agreement and test the durability of the fragile diplomatic breakthrough.
