Payam Javan: Jack Lew has been confirmed as the U.S. ambassador to Israel amid increased attacks on the country by Hamas.
The Senate voted 53–۴۳ in favor of Lew, who succeeds Tom Nides.
In his testimony, Lew expressed outrage over Hamas attacks, promising to end them and ensure Israel’s defense. He also pledged to bring back U.S. citizens held hostage by Hamas and addressed concerns about his role in the 2015 Iran deal, stating that he recognizes Iran as a threat and opposes negotiations at the moment due to the Hamas attacks.
Republican senators raised reservations about his Iran deal involvement and transparency during the confirmation hearing.
