Safety Agency Investigates New Complaints on Recalled Jeep Wrangler 4xe

Payam Javan: The U.S. government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating over 94,000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles for potential “loss of motive power” issues. This follows complaints from owners of vehicles not included in a previous recall addressing engine shutdowns.

In November 2022, nearly 63,000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles (model years 2021-2023) were recalled for an engine shutdown problem. Despite a software update intended to fix this, complaints have persisted. The new investigation includes 68 owner reports of power loss in vehicles from 2021-2024, affecting both previously recalled and non-recalled models.

The NHTSA’s current probe covers about 94,275 vehicles. Stellantis, Jeep’s parent company, is cooperating with the investigation. In a separate incident, Stellantis recalled over 32,000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe SUVs in November 2023 due to a fire risk.
