Payam Javan: On Sunday, the FBI announced that 25-year-old Guy Edward Bartkus from Twentynine Palms, California, is believed to be the suspect behind a bombing near the American Reproductive Centers clinic in Palm Springs. Akil Davis, assistant director at the FBI’s Los Angeles field office, stated that Bartkus, who was found deceased near a 2010 silver Ford Fusion containing the bomb, likely acted alone in what is being investigated as a targeted act of domestic terrorism. The FBI revealed that Bartkus held nihilistic views and may have attempted to livestream the attack, with an anti-pro-life manifesto attributed to him currently under examination.
The explosion, which occurred around 11 a.m. on Saturday at 1199 North Indian Canyon Drive, caused significant damage to the clinic and nearby buildings, injuring four people. While the clinic’s reproductive materials remained secure, the blast destroyed the suspect’s vehicle and extended damage across multiple blocks. Authorities are urging the public to provide tips about Bartkus or the vehicle, as the investigation continues to uncover the motives and circumstances surrounding this intentional attack.
