Payam Javan: A shooting at an unsanctioned party promoted on social media in unincorporated Morgan Hill, California, has left one person dead and six others injured. The incident occurred late Saturday evening, drawing a massive law enforcement response as hundreds of attendees fled the scene.

Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies were initially dispatched to the area of Hale Avenue near Miramonte Avenue around 10:16 p.m. on July 25, following reports of public intoxication and individuals throwing bottles at vehicles. Upon arrival, deputies encountered a chaotic environment where more than 300 partygoers were attempting to flee after multiple gunshots had been fired.

Deputies immediately administered lifesaving aid to multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One individual was pronounced dead at the scene, while six other injured victims were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment. A relocation area was established nearby to help family members and friends locate those who had attended the gathering.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office is leading a homicide investigation, which officials describe as complex and likely lengthy. Preliminary findings indicate that a handgun was used in what investigators believe to be an isolated incident. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Morgan Hill, Gilroy, and San Jose police departments, along with the California Highway Patrol, assisted with scene security, traffic control, and initial investigative efforts.

Sheriff Robert Jonsen condemned the violence, calling it unacceptable and stating that the department would work tirelessly to apprehend those responsible. The Sheriff’s Office is actively following leads and has urged anyone with information, photos, or video footage of the incident to contact their Investigative Services Division.
