General Motors Recalls 820,000 Pickup Trucks Due to Unlatching Tailgates

Payam Javan: General Motors (GM) is recalling 820,000 pickup trucks in North America due to a potential safety hazard. The recall affects certain models from 2020 to 2024, equipped with power-unlatching tailgates. According to GM, water leakage could cause a short circuit in the exterior tailgate switch, leading to unexpected tailgate opening. This poses a risk of cargo falling out of the truck bed while driving.

GM urges owners to inspect their tailgates for proper closure and latching before driving. The company is working on a solution and will replace the faulty switch assemblies with a water-resistant design. Until the replacement parts are available, GM dealers might temporarily disable the switch on affected vehicles. The recall covers specific Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra models, including both light-duty and heavy-duty versions.
