پیام جوان: The website utilized by the cyber extortion collective known as ShinyHunters went offline on Wednesday, following the expiration of a deadline set by the group for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The hackers had demanded that the FBI retract or modify a public advisory concerning the group’s tactics and operational history.
ShinyHunters previously claimed responsibility for breaching systems to obtain sensitive personal data belonging to thousands of FBI agents and applicants. Reuters analyzed a sample of the compromised information, confirming it included extensive personally identifiable details, job roles, and confidential medical records.
The group stated that the cyberattack was launched in direct retaliation to a May advisory published by the FBI, which the hackers argued misrepresented their prior activities. They had issued an ultimatum giving law enforcement one week to remove or correct the official statement.
Despite the expiration of the deadline and the subsequent disappearance of the hackers’ platform, the contested FBI advisory remains accessible online. Representatives for ShinyHunters indicated in later statements that they never intended to publish the entirety of the stolen data and believed their objectives had been met.
In response to the incident, the FBI confirmed it has been actively and aggressively investigating the breach. Brett Leatherman, assistant director of the FBI Cyber Division, released a video urging the perpetrators to establish contact with the bureau while the choice remains theirs, though the agency declined to comment on whether it influenced the site’s outage.
Meanwhile, international law enforcement efforts continue, with Dutch police announcing the arrest of a man linked to the broader ShinyHunters investigation. However, the hacking group publicly dismissed the arrest, claiming the detained individual has no association with their operations and mocking the authorities.
