EndofJuly Meteor Showers Set to Light Up Vancouver’s Night Sky

Late July will bring one of the most exciting celestial events of the summer: a double meteor shower featuring the Southern Delta Aquariids and Alpha Capricornids, peaking on July 29–31.

The Southern Delta Aquariids typically produce 15–20 meteors per hour, while the Alpha Capricornids add bright, slowmoving fireballs that can linger in the sky.

Although a bright Full Buck Moon on July 29 may wash out some of the fainter meteors, skywatchers in Metro Vancouver can still expect visible fireballs — especially in darker areas such as North Shore parks or rural spots outside the city.

For astronomy lovers, this double shower offers a dramatic warmup before August’s famous Perseids.
