Payam Javan: Country music icon Toby Keith, known for chart-topping hits like “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue (The Angry American),” has passed away at the age of 62 after an 18-month battle with stomach cancer.

Keith died surrounded by his family on February 5, according to representatives. The news was shared on his website and social media.

His three-decade career included numerous successful albums and notable songs, making him a household name. Keith, who received the National Medal of Arts in 2021, revealed his cancer diagnosis in 2022 and had been undergoing treatment. Despite his health challenges, he continued to perform and was honored at the 2023 People’s Choice Country Awards. Keith is survived by his wife, Tricia Lucas, and their three children and four grandchildren.
