Car Plows into Liverpool Victory Parade, Injuring 47 Including Children

Payam Javan: At least 47 people, including four children, were injured when a car plowed into a crowd during a victory parade celebrating Liverpool’s Premier League title on Monday, Merseyside Police reported. The incident occurred on Water Street in Liverpool city center, England, after 6 p.m. local time, when a gray minivan collided with pedestrians. A 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area was arrested at the scene, and police are investigating the circumstances, urging the public to avoid speculation or sharing distressing footage. The incident is not currently being treated as terrorism, and authorities believe it to be an isolated event.

Emergency services responded swiftly, with 27 people hospitalized and 20 treated at the scene, including one child with serious injuries. Four individuals trapped under the vehicle were rescued by Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service. Witnesses described the car moving “extremely fast,” striking people and causing chaos as the crowd reacted angrily. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Liverpool city council leader Liam Robinson expressed solidarity with those affected, while Liverpool Football Club stated it was in contact with police, offering support to victims. The incident marred what had been a joyous celebration of the team’s record-tying 20th top-flight title.
