Payam Javan: Kaylee Hottle, the 18-year-old actress renowned for her breakout role as Jia in the blockbuster films “Godzilla vs. Kong” and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” has passed away following a single-vehicle car crash in Frederick County, Maryland. According to a statement released by the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred early Tuesday morning in the 11400 block of Windsor Road in Ijamsville. Investigators believe that excessive speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
The sheriff’s office reported that a 1995 Honda Accord, driven by a 19-year-old man from Frederick, veered off the right side of the two-lane road and collided with a culvert. Hottle, a resident of Kyle, Texas, was one of two passengers in the vehicle. She was transported to a local trauma center, where she was subsequently pronounced dead. The driver was hospitalized with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, while the second passenger declined medical treatment at the scene of the accident.
Hottle’s father, Joshua Hottle, confirmed the news in a video posted to Facebook using American Sign Language (ASL). Additionally, the Texas School for the Deaf, where Hottle was completing her senior year, released a statement expressing profound sadness over her sudden passing and requesting privacy for her family. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Hottle belonged to a multigenerational Deaf family and was an active advocate for accessibility and Deaf representation in media before stepping into mainstream Hollywood.
Hottle made her feature film debut in 2021’s “Godzilla vs. Kong” after being discovered in a commercial, and she reprised her prominent role in the 2024 sequel. Her performance earned critical acclaim, including praise from co-star Alexander Skarsgård, as well as a 2024 Saturn Award nomination for Best Younger Performer in a Film.
