Jennifer Finch, the bassist and co-founder of the highly influential punk rock band L7, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer, her bandmates announced on Monday. Finch, widely celebrated as a punk rock icon, cultural instigator, and multi-disciplinary artist, has already undergone multiple surgeries and experienced severe complications following the diagnosis. The sudden medical crisis has completely upended the band’s plans and prompted an urgent public appeal for financial support to manage her rapidly escalating healthcare needs.
Her bandmates, family, and friends have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the astronomical costs of her treatment and specialized care. Although early medical prognoses offered some hope that a full course of radiation therapy could restore her to daily functioning, unforeseen post-surgical complications have resulted in significant physical limitations. According to the campaign organizers, the round-the-clock support she now requires has far exceeded what her family and close friends can safely provide on their own.
The fundraising campaign, which aims to reach a $350,000 goal, has already raised over $165,000 from fans and supporters worldwide. The funds are designated to cover professional in-home nursing care, physical and speech therapy, specialized medical equipment, and out-of-pocket medical and legal expenses. Additionally, a portion of the donations will be used to preserve Finch’s artistic legacy, including the completion of an upcoming creative project she had scheduled for release next year.
The diagnosis has also forced changes to L7’s upcoming “The Last Hurrah Tour,” which Finch had actively helped plan while all four members were still in good health. While her physical condition prevents her from joining her bandmates on stage for the upcoming U.S. dates, Finch has personally requested that the band proceed with the tour. Her bandmates have promised to honor her wish and continue touring while keeping her comfort, care, and well-being their absolute top priority.
