David G. Johnson, a lifelong resident of Santa Clara County and newly elected chairman of the county’s Republican Central Committee, has officially launched his campaign for State Assembly District 23. Johnson, who secured his seat on the central committee in 2024 and assumed the chairmanship in January 2025, is now challenging incumbent Marc Berman in the upcoming June 2 primary.
A native of Mountain View, Johnson spent 35 years there before relocating to Campbell in 2001 to raise his triplets. A graduate of San José State University with a degree in marketing and business, he has spent four decades in the South Bay’s commercial construction industry, specializing in design-build projects for high-tech firms. He currently owns and operates two construction-related businesses, one established in 1994 and another founded in 2010.
Johnson describes himself as a lifelong conservative with a background in political fundraising and speechwriting dating back to his college years. His campaign platform centers on “common sense” governance, with a focus on opposing new taxes and regulations that he argues harm small businesses across the Bay Area.
Outside of politics, Johnson remains active through walking, hiking, gardening, and ongoing professional and party-related projects.
