Six Killed, 12 Wounded in Jerusalem Bus Stop Shooting; Two Gunmen Dead

Payam Javan: Two Palestinian gunmen opened fire at a bus stop on the outskirts of Jerusalem on Monday, killing six people and injuring 12 in what police described as “a terrorist attack.” The shooting, among the deadliest in the city in recent years, occurred at a major intersection at the northern entrance to Jerusalem. Israel’s ambulance service initially identified five fatalities before Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said a sixth victim had died; he added the attackers were Palestinians from the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Police said the two assailants arrived by car and shot at people waiting at the bus stop at Ramot Junction. An Israeli soldier and a civilian at the scene returned fire and killed both attackers. Authorities recovered several weapons, ammunition, and a knife. Dashcam footage showed people fleeing as shots rang out and a bus with its windscreen and windows pierced by bullets. “Suddenly I hear the shots… I felt like I was running for an eternity,” said Ester Lugasi, who was injured in the attack.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking at the scene, said forces were pursuing suspects who aided the gunmen. The Israeli military deployed soldiers to support police searches and said troops were operating in areas of Ramallah to conduct interrogations and “thwart terrorism.” Hamas and Islamic Jihad praised the attack without claiming responsibility. The incident follows previous deadly shootings, including the killing of seven people in Tel Aviv in October 2024 and three people at a Jerusalem bus stop in November 2023, when security services linked the attackers to Hamas.
