Huawei Faces Trial in U.S. Over Racketeering and Trade Secret Theft Charges

Payam Javan: A federal judge has rejected Huawei’s attempt to dismiss a high-profile case, setting the stage for the Chinese tech giant to face trial in May 2026. Huawei, accused of close ties to the Chinese communist regime, is charged with racketeering, stealing trade secrets from six U.S. companies, and committing bank fraud. The allegations center on Huawei’s alleged efforts to misappropriate intellectual property and engage in illicit financial activities, marking a significant escalation in U.S.-China tensions over technology and trade.

The charges also include Huawei’s use of a Hong Kong-based front company to conduct business in Iran, violating U.S. sanctions. Additionally, the company is accused of misleading banks to facilitate over $100 million in illegal money transfers. Huawei has pleaded not guilty, denying all allegations. The upcoming trial is expected to draw significant attention, given its implications for international trade, technology, and U.S. national security concerns.
