Zambian Authorities Launch Investigation Into Death of Lifestyle Influencer Lisa Mutalu

Payam Javan: The Zambia Police Service has launched an investigation into the sudden death of 25-year-old lifestyle content creator Lisa Mutalu, legally known as Lisa Mutambo. Mutalu, a prominent social media influencer with over 122,000 followers on Instagram, passed away on August 20 after falling ill and losing consciousness at her residence in Lusaka.

According to preliminary police reports, Mutalu spent the evening of August 19 with two female friends, starting at approximately 8:30 p.m. at a local hotel where she worked as an ambassador. The group later transitioned to a drinking establishment in Lusaka around 10:30 p.m. to continue socializing.

Between 2:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. the following morning, Mutalu’s boyfriend, identified by police as Caleb Lisa, also known as Andrea, picked up the three women. After dropping off Mutalu’s friends in the Minestone and Casanova areas, the couple proceeded to their shared residence in the Kalundu area of Lusaka.

Upon arriving home, Mutalu reportedly began vomiting and subsequently lost consciousness. Her partner contacted a friend to help transport her to Victoria Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Authorities have placed the timeline of the incident between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m.

Law enforcement officials received the sudden-death report at approximately 9:30 a.m. on August 20. Investigators have examined both primary and secondary scenes, and while police confirmed that no physical injuries were observed on the body, her remains have been transferred to the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha stated that the department will provide updates as the inquiry continues. Meanwhile, Mutalu’s final social media posts have become a focal point for mourning, drawing tens of thousands of reactions and condolences from her followers and the public.
