US and Pakistan Partner on Oil Development, Tariffs to Be Cut

Payam Javan: President Donald Trump announced a new deal with Pakistan, stating the two countries will work together to develop Pakistan’s vast oil reserves. The agreement, which was also confirmed by the Pakistani Embassy in Washington, marks a new era of economic collaboration. While Trump’s statement focused on oil development, the Pakistani Embassy highlighted that the deal is comprehensive, aiming to boost bilateral trade, expand market access, and attract investment. This agreement also includes a reciprocal reduction of tariffs, which is a significant development given that Pakistan was facing a potential 29% tariff on its exports to the United States.

According to the Pakistani Embassy, the partnership extends beyond energy to include cooperation in mines and minerals, IT, and cryptocurrency. The deal is expected to increase U.S. investment in Pakistan’s infrastructure and development projects, as well as enhance market access for both nations. This development comes as Trump’s administration has been actively renegotiating trade terms with several countries, including India and South Korea, as part of a broader effort to strengthen the U.S. economy and reduce trade deficits.
