U.S. Issues Global Alert as Israel-Iran Conflict Escalates After Nuclear Strikes

Payam Javan: The U.S. State Department issued a “worldwide caution” for American citizens abroad on June 22, citing heightened risks of anti-U.S. demonstrations due to the escalating Israel-Iran conflict, triggered by U.S. airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities on June 21. The strikes, described by President Donald Trump as a “spectacular military success,” obliterated key Iranian nuclear enrichment sites, prompting Iran to retaliate with ballistic missiles and drones targeting Israel. The conflict has disrupted Middle East travel, closed airspace, and led to U.S. evacuations from Israel, with the U.S. Embassy resuming limited emergency passport services on June 23.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi warned of “everlasting consequences” and ruled out diplomacy with the U.S., while the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization condemned the strikes as a violation of international law. The International Atomic Energy Agency declared Iran noncompliant with the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty on June 12, and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized Iran’s nuclear capabilities pose a global threat, citing its 60% enriched uranium and ICBM development. Trump urged Iran to negotiate within 60 days to avoid further military action, warning of precise strikes on additional targets if diplomacy fails, as the U.S. and its allies brace for Iran’s next move.
