Trump Slams Xi, Putin, and Kim Over “Conspiracy” at Beijing Military Parade

Payam Javan: U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Chinese Communist Party leader Xi Jinping during a major military parade in Beijing commemorating the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II. In a post on Truth Social, Trump questioned whether Xi would acknowledge America’s wartime sacrifices, noting that “many Americans died in China’s quest for Victory and Glory.” While extending warm wishes to “the wonderful people of China,” Trump sharply warned Xi to “give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against the United States of America.” Moscow swiftly denied the allegation, with Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov saying there were “no conspiracies.”

The parade, which showcased China’s military power, drew controversy at home and abroad. Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council condemned Beijing’s $5 billion display, accusing the CCP of neglecting economic and social challenges while rewriting history to minimize the role of the Republic of China in defeating Japan. Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te added that Taiwan commemorates peace through culture and remembrance rather than “the barrel of a gun.” Both China and Taiwan mark the victory over Japan on September 3, but their approaches highlight a stark divide in political values.

The event was notable for bringing together Xi, Putin, and Kim Jong Un alongside Iran’s leadership, marking the first appearance of a North Korean leader at a Chinese military parade since 1959. While 26 heads of state attended, turnout fell short of the 2015 anniversary celebration that drew broader international participation. The gathering followed a Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit where Xi and Putin met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who faces domestic criticism after new U.S. tariffs imposed by Trump. Analysts noted the parade underscored China and Russia’s deepening strategic partnership, even amid reports of Beijing preparing contingency plans in case of a Russian collapse in Ukraine.
