Trump Issues “Last Warning” to Hamas to Accept Hostage Deal

Payam Javan: President Donald Trump on Sunday issued a “last warning” to the Hamas terrorist group to accept a deal to secure the release of all remaining hostages. In a Truth Social post, he said Israel “has accepted my terms” and warned of consequences if Hamas declines, while noting the specific terms have not been made public. Trump told reporters he believes his administration could reach a deal to end the Gaza conflict “very soon.”

Speaking at Joint Base Andrews after a brief trip to New York, Trump called the effort a solution “for the Middle East, for Israel, for everybody.” He cited the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attack that killed more than 1,200 Israelis and led to Israel’s invasion of Gaza. Of the 251 people abducted that day, 48 are believed to remain in captivity. Trump said he is hopeful all can be returned through diplomacy, acknowledging some may have died and that the United States would seek the return of their remains.

Israeli outlet N12 reported Saturday that Trump’s proposal envisions Hamas releasing the 48 remaining hostages in exchange for the release of thousands of Palestinians jailed in Israel, alongside a cease-fire that would lead to ending the war. Trump said Israel is on board, though Israeli officials have not publicly endorsed the plan; The Epoch Times said it contacted the White House for comment. Hamas said it has received U.S. ideas and is discussing them, reiterating openness to a swap tied to a clear end to the war and a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. Trump also reiterated his broader push to end the war in Ukraine.
