Payam Javan: In a move to deter rising tensions with Russia, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the deployment of two American nuclear submarines “where they have to be” near Russia’s borders. This action was taken in response to what Trump called “highly provocative statements” from former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. Trump emphasized that the submarine deployment serves as a precautionary and deterrent measure amid the escalating tensions between Washington and Moscow.
Alongside this military show of force, Trump also revealed diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating the situation. He mentioned that U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff may travel to Moscow this week to negotiate a ceasefire and prevent further sanctions on Russia. Simultaneously, the U.S. administration is increasing pressure on India, one of Russia’s largest oil buyers, threatening secondary sanctions should New Delhi continue its crude purchases from Russia.
