Trump and Starmer Seal Historic U.S.–U.K. Tech Pact Worth Billions

Payam Javan: On the final day of his state visit to Britain, U.S. President Donald Trump met Prime Minister Keir Starmer to unveil a sweeping technology investment agreement aimed at bolstering cooperation in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and nuclear energy. Officials said the deal would generate billions of dollars in investment and create thousands of jobs across both nations. Trump called the partnership “the next logical step” in deepening U.S.–U.K. scientific ties.

One of the standout beneficiaries of the agreement is London-based data center startup Nscale, which emerged as a key player in several announcements. Chipmaker Nvidia revealed plans to invest £500 million ($680 million) in the firm while partnering with OpenAI to establish a U.K. branch of Stargate, an artificial intelligence infrastructure initiative backed by Trump. The move underscores Britain’s growing role in the global race to develop next-generation computing systems.

Meanwhile, Microsoft pledged a massive $30 billion investment in the U.K. through 2028, half of which will go toward cloud computing and AI infrastructure. As part of the initiative, Microsoft is collaborating with Nscale to build what is set to be the country’s largest supercomputer, powered by more than 23,000 advanced graphics processor chips. The project is expected to solidify Britain’s position as a major hub for cutting-edge technology and digital innovation.
