Payam Javan: Tesla is recalling over 1.8 million vehicles in the U.S. due to a software issue that may fail to detect if the hood is unlatched, potentially obstructing the driver’s view and increasing crash risk, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall includes 2021–2024 Model 3, Model S, Model X, and 2020–2024 Model Y vehicles. Tesla is addressing the issue with an over-the-air software update that alerts drivers if the hood is open. The problem was traced to a hood latch produced by Magna Closures Co Ltd in China.
This recall is Tesla’s largest since December 2023 and follows a recent probe into Autopilot-related crashes. Tesla also reported its lowest quarterly profit margin in over five years amid declining auto sales.
