Navid Afkari Iran’s champion wrestler was executed by the Islamic Republic despite pleas from the US President Donald Trump

Navid Afkari a 27-year-old Greco-Roman wrestling champion was executed by the officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Saturday despite pleas from U.S. President Donald Trump and UFC president Dana White.

He was severely tortured to confess a crime that he didn’t commit. The Islamic government claims that Navid murdered a security guard during protests in 2018. False accusations by the Islamic Republic has been around since beginning of the revolution after overthrowing the Shah to hold power through fear and suppressing people’s desire for democracy and change by executing innocent people.

Navid’s brothers, Vahid and Habib, were sentenced to 54 and 27 years in prison with 74 lashes, in the same case, according to human rights activists in Iran.

Dana White, in hearing of his execution sentence asked President Trump who is a personal friend of his to help Navid. The President responded by tweeting, “Hearing that Iran is looking to execute a great and popular wrestling star, 27-year-old Navid Afkarai, whose sole act was an anti-government demonstration on the streets. They were protesting the ‘country’s worsening economic situation and inflation’… To the leaders of Iran, I would greatly appreciate if you would spare this young man’s life, and not execute him. Thank you!”

Unfortunately, all pleas including those of Afkari’s family and thousands of supporters worldwide was not respected by the Islamic Republic government and his execution sentence was carried out on Saturday September 12, according to the BBC.

Such desperate acts by the Islamic Republic, reveals little value for the human’s rights and fear of the regime from collapsing and falling in the hand of people opposing their ruling.

Our hearts and prayers goes to his family.
