Israel and Hamas Reach Ceasefire and Hostage Exchange Agreement

Payam Javan: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Friday that an agreement has been finalized to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. This development comes after reports of last-minute hurdles in negotiating a ceasefire to end a 15-month conflict.

The Israeli security cabinet has recommended the approval of the agreement, with the final decision pending a full cabinet meeting. The ceasefire is slated to commence on Sunday. Under the terms of the deal, Hamas will release 33 Israeli hostages, while Israel will free up to 1,650 Palestinian detainees in stages.

Additionally, the agreement includes provisions for a substantial increase in humanitarian aid to Gaza, allowing for up to 600 trucks of supplies to enter daily, marking a significant effort to address the humanitarian crisis in the region.
