Iran’s Missile Assault on Israel Kills Five, Sparks Fierce Retaliation

Payam Javan: In a dramatic escalation of hostilities, Iran fired over 100 missiles into Israel in the early hours of Monday, resulting in at least five deaths and 87 injuries, according to Israeli emergency services. The attacks targeted cities like Tel Aviv and Petah Tikva, with a residential building in Petah Tikva sustaining significant damage. Israel’s robust air defense systems, including the Iron Dome and David’s Sling, intercepted many of the incoming missiles, though explosions rocked central Israel. The U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv reported minor damage from shock waves but no injuries to personnel. Israeli authorities condemned the strikes as deliberate attacks on civilians, while Iran claimed the barrage was retaliation for recent Israeli airstrikes and drone attacks on its territory.

The conflict intensified as Israel responded with airstrikes on Tehran, targeting command centers of Iran’s Quds Force. Iran’s Ministry of Health reported 224 deaths since Friday, including high-ranking military officials like Maj. Gen. Mohammad Bagheri and IRGC commander Maj. Gen. Hossein Salami. Iran’s state media also confirmed the deaths of key intelligence figures in Israeli strikes. Israel’s military claimed to have destroyed 120 Iranian missile launchers, asserting “full air supremacy” over Tehran. As tensions mount, world leaders at the G7 summit in Canada are set to address the crisis, with U.S. President Donald Trump expressing hope for a resolution while acknowledging the ongoing violence. Iran’s parliament is reportedly considering withdrawing from the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, further raising global concerns.
