Payam Javan: Iranian naval forces captured a foreign oil tanker Thursday that was headed for Texas after the nation said it collided with one of its ships.
In a statement announcing the seizure, the US military demanded the ship’s immediate release. Additionally, the Navy demanded that Iran stop violating international law with such actions.
The Iranian military has continued to harass commercial boats in the area, according to Naval Central Command.
The number of passengers on board the tanker is unknown. According to Iranian forces, there were injuries after the ship crashed with one of its own. Iran that has recently threatened civilian ships alarmingly frequently claims that the supposed collision also caused numerous people to go missing.
The strait of Hormuz in the Gulf of Oman is used by about 20% of all crude oil that is transported internationally.
The Advantage Sweet’s owners have not yet responded to the confiscation.
