Hunter Biden Sentencing Set for November Amid Ongoing Legal Challenges

Payam Javan: A federal judge has scheduled Hunter Biden’s sentencing for November 13 in Delaware. In June, Biden was convicted of three gun-related charges following a six-day trial led by U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika and Special Counsel David Weiss. A presentence investigation report must be prepared and shared by September 24, but its recommendation will remain confidential. The defense and prosecution have until November 6 to submit sentencing memos, and October 30 is the deadline for requests for an evidentiary hearing.

Biden was convicted of illegally possessing a firearm and falsifying information on a purchase application in 2018, during a period he admitted to drug addiction in his memoir. Texts and testimonies at trial confirmed his drug use. After his conviction, Biden sought a new trial but later withdrew, citing the appeal process. He also challenged the constitutionality of the special counsel’s appointment, referencing a similar dismissal in a case involving former President Trump.

The maximum sentence for Biden is 25 years and $750,000 in fines, though he is unlikely to receive the maximum as a first-time offender. President Joe Biden has stated he will not pardon his son. Additionally, Biden faces a tax trial starting September 5 in California on charges including tax evasion and failing to pay over $1.4 million in taxes from 2016 to 2019. This case could result in up to 17 years in prison.
