Global Coalition Strikes Houthi Rebels in Yemen, Protecting Maritime Trade

Payam Javan: In a coordinated effort, U.S. and UK military forces, supported by Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, and Bahrain, executed air strikes against Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The strikes specifically targeted Houthi missile, radar, and UAV capabilities, aiming to disrupt their ability to threaten global trade. The operation received non-operational support from allied nations, with assurances that civilian populations were not targeted.

The Houthi attacks have impacted over 50 countries, culminating in a significant strike against American vessels on Jan. 9, which was thwarted by the U.S. and UK naval forces.

President Biden emphasized global unity against Houthi threats, highlighting the condemnation from over 40 nations and a UN Security Council resolution demanding an end to the attacks. Despite international efforts, the Houthi leader vowed to intensify assaults, prompting the U.S. president to direct further measures if necessary to protect people and international commerce.
