George was born in Tehran, Iran in 1972 to an American father and an Iranian mother. When he was 5 his family left Iran and moved to his father’s hometown of Alexandria, Virginia, just outside of Washington D.C. Two years later, George’s family settled in San Jose, California in the council district he is currently campaigning to represent.
George is proud of his Persian heritage and considers himself fortunate to have grown up in a home filled with his mother’s relatives as they immigrated and adjusted to life in America. Childhood memories of his mother and aunts stuffing grape leaves, his uncle sneaking him a piece of kebab from the grill, or clapping along with his cousins while laughing at their parents dancing to Googoosh or Andy - along with countless other recollections that serve as an endless source of comfort and joy.
After graduating from Bellarmine College Preparatory, George received his undergraduate and law degrees from Santa Clara University, along with a masters degree in Urban Planning from San Jose State University and a masters degree in Real Estate Development from UC Berkeley.
After working at a major law firm, George joined the startup world as Sr. Council and began to serve the people of San Jose as a Planning Commissioner.
George’s decision to run for city council is rooted in his frustration with the steadily declining quality of life. George is uniting neighbors like us who are ready to fight for our neighborhoods and all of San Jose. His key issues are:
1) Keeping our streets safe by adding 4-500 hundred more officers to the force;
2) Housing our homeless neighbors by fighting for cost-effective, dignified housing and then requiring that people living on the streets use it;
3) Fiscal accountability.
