FBI’s Operation Summer Heat Linked to 20% Drop in U.S. Crime, Trump Says

Payam Javan: President Donald Trump praised the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for what he described as “historic results” in fighting violent crime, citing record-breaking arrests and seizures since the start of his administration. In a Truth Social post, Trump said more than 28,000 violent criminals had been arrested, alongside the recovery of thousands of illegal weapons and the rescue of 5,000 children. He credited FBI Director Kash Patel and his deputies Dan Bongino and Andrew Bailey for “bringing law and order back to America.”

A central part of the agency’s success, Trump said, was Operation Summer Heat, an FBI-led initiative targeting violent offenders in major U.S. cities from June through September. The operation reportedly resulted in over 8,700 arrests, including 11,000 murder suspects, with sharp increases in arrests in cities such as Nashville and New Orleans. Trump hailed the results as contributing to a 20 percent nationwide drop in crime compared with the previous year.

Separately, the Department of Homeland Security announced Operation River Wall, a new measure to bolster border security along the Rio Grande. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the initiative would mobilize over 100 Coast Guard boats to deter illegal immigration and criminal activity. Noem praised law enforcement’s accomplishments as “extraordinary,” noting that for five consecutive months, no illegal immigrants had been released into the United States.
