Devastating Storms Sweep Through Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas

Payam Javan: Powerful storms wreaked havoc across Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, resulting in at least 20 fatalities, hundreds of injuries, and widespread destruction. The severe weather obliterated homes and destroyed a truck stop where dozens sought shelter.

The worst-hit region extended from north of Dallas to northwest Arkansas. Forecasts indicate that the greatest risk will shift east on Monday, affecting areas from Alabama to near New York City.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency due to significant wind damage and tornadoes. In Texas, seven deaths occurred in Cooke County, including two children. In Arkansas, eight deaths were confirmed, with some indirectly caused by the storm. Oklahoma reported two fatalities in Mayes County, and Kentucky noted three storm-related deaths.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott reported about 100 injuries and over 200 destroyed homes and structures. The severe weather also left tens of thousands without power across multiple states.

The storm system is expected to continue eastward, bringing further severe weather to Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia.
