Payam Javan: An unidentified bidder paid a world-record $19 million for a private lunch with Warren Buffett at a New York City steakhouse.
The meal with Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett was auctioned off on eBay to aid GLIDE, a San Francisco-based organization that assists homeless people and others in poverty.
Since the auction began in 2000, Buffett has generated $53 million for GLIDE. Susie, the charitable billionaire’s first wife, introduced him to the organization after she began volunteering there, and he became a patron. She passed away in 2004.
This year’s event will be the first private lunch with the 91-year-old billionaire since cryptocurrency developer Justin Sun’s $4.5 million record-breaking bid in 2019. Due to COVID-19 issues, the last two auctions were canceled, and Buffett has stated that this will be the final one.
