ABC Pulls Jimmy Kimmel Off Air After Backlash Over Charlie Kirk Comments

Payam Javan: ABC has announced the indefinite suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live following remarks by the late-night host regarding the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The decision comes after Nexstar Media Group, a major operator of ABC affiliates, declared it would no longer air the show due to what it described as “strong objections” to Kimmel’s comments. The network confirmed to CNN that the program will be pre-empted indefinitely.

The controversy stems from Kimmel’s Monday monologue, in which he suggested that Tyler Robinson — the suspect accused of killing Kirk — had ties to former President Donald Trump’s voter base. Kimmel criticized what he called “the MAGA gang” for attempting to distance themselves from the suspect while simultaneously politicizing the tragedy. His remarks were met with sharp backlash from conservative circles and media outlets.

Further fueling the fallout, FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr publicly condemned Kimmel’s comments, calling them “the sickest conduct possible.” In an interview with conservative podcaster Benny Johnson, Carr warned that the FCC would pressure ABC to take action, stating, “We can do this the easy way or the hard way.” Meanwhile, Utah officials confirmed on Sunday — prior to Kimmel’s broadcast — that Robinson had espoused “leftist ideology,” further complicating the political narratives around the case.
