A Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall counselor was sentenced to six months of house arrest for repeatedly hitting a detained youngster in the head

Payam Javan: According to the district attorney’s office, a Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall counselor was sentenced to six months of house arrest for repeatedly hitting a detained youngster in the head and smashing the boy’s head on the floor.

For the April incident, Robert Medellin, 46, was found guilty on June 1 of criminal assault under color of authority.

Authorities claimed that one of the teenagers who started the violence was grabbed by Medellin. The 17-year-old was then taken to the ground by Medellin, who repeatedly pounded him despite his attempts to shield his head with his hands.

Authorities claim that after placing the child face down on the ground, Medellin struck the child’s head against the floor once before handcuffing him.

The incident was recorded on video, but it is not being made public in order to protect the identities of the minors.
