Payam Javan: Thanks to Dolly Parton, a new law that was passed will now give free books to millions of kids in California.
Gavin Newsom signed SB 1183 into law, which will provide financing for Parton’s “Imagination Library” initiative, which offers free books to kids from birth to age five. The law, which aimed to promote preschoolers’ early love of reading and learning, was supported by both political parties in both houses.
The child’s household will receive free books that aren’t a financial burden on their family. Up until the age of five, kids will get one free book per month. Online registration for the program is available to parents or guardians of minors.
