Saudi airport authorities confirmed that both pilots were hospitalized after the aircraft landed safely in Tabuk.
Flight FZ1073, a Boeing 737, issued emergency signals during the incident and experienced a rapid loss of altitude. Flight-tracking data indicated that the aircraft descended by roughly 14,000 to 17,000 feet within a short period before stabilizing. According to Netanyahu, passengers and a crew member entered the cockpit after the plane began a steep descent and subdued the co-pilot. Israeli officials said the suspect, identified as an Omani national, was arrested by Saudi authorities after the landing.
Flydubai confirmed that an altercation occurred in the flight deck and said the aircraft was secured by off-duty company crew members who were traveling on the flight. The crew diverted the aircraft to Tabuk, where it landed safely. The airline said all passengers and crew were safe and accounted for, while Saudi authorities said an investigation into the incident was underway.
Israeli officials have been investigating the incident as a possible attempted terrorist attack, although early reports contained conflicting accounts about what happened and the identities of those involved. Flight-tracking data also showed the aircraft transmitting an emergency code associated with unlawful interference before later switching back to a general emergency signal.
