Scott Bryce, the Daytime Emmy-nominated actor best recognized for his longtime role as Craig Montgomery on the CBS soap opera “As the World Turns,” has died at the age of 68. His family confirmed that he passed away on July 12 at Yale New Haven Hospital in Connecticut following a prolonged battle with cancer. Initially diagnosed with stage three esophageal cancer, the disease eventually metastasized, leading to brain tumors that ultimately claimed his life.
Born into a family of actors, Bryce followed in the footsteps of his parents, Ed and Dorothy Bryce, who were both prominent figures in daytime television. His career spanned more than four decades, during which he became a staple of American daytime television. His portrayal of Craig Montgomery from 1982 to 2008 earned him two Daytime Emmy nominations and featured prominent storylines, including an early on-screen romance with Meg Ryan’s character, Betsy Stewart.
Beyond his signature role in daytime drama, Bryce maintained a prolific career in prime-time television and film. His extensive credits included appearances in popular television series such as “Murphy Brown,” “L.A. Law,” “Sex and the City,” “30 Rock,” “Gossip Girl,” “Homeland,” and “The Good Fight.” His final television performance was a multi-episode guest appearance on “Law & Order” in 2024, demonstrating his enduring presence in the entertainment industry.
In tributes shared by his family, Bryce was remembered not only for his professional dedication but also for his deep commitment to his family. His son, Jackson Bryce, highlighted his father’s resilience throughout extensive medical treatments, including chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy. Jackson emphasized that despite his father’s professional achievements, he regarded parenthood as his greatest accomplishment, maintaining a supportive and active presence in his family’s life until his passing.
