California Authorities Arrest Suspect for Robbery and Police Impersonation

Payam Javan: A 32-year-old man, identified as Brendan Kroning of San Andreas, was arrested on April 22, 2026, following a week-long investigation into a robbery at a Cupertino spa. The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office apprehended the suspect in a San Jose parking garage after linking him to an incident where a man allegedly posed as a law enforcement officer. Kroning faces several serious charges, including three counts of robbery, three counts of false imprisonment, and one count of impersonating a police officer.

The charges stem from an incident on April 15 at the Sunny Spa on South De Anza Boulevard, where a suspect entered the premises wearing a tactical vest and duty belt while carrying what appeared to be a handgun. Claiming to be a police officer conducting an official business inspection, the individual reportedly disabled the establishment’s security cameras before demanding access to the cash register. The suspect then fled the scene with a significant amount of currency, though no staff members were injured during the encounter.

Following the robbery, deputies from the Sheriff’s Office, alongside units from Los Altos and Sunnyvale, conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area using K-9 teams. While initial search efforts did not yield an immediate arrest, subsequent investigative follow-ups led detectives to Kroning. Upon his arrest, evidence connecting him to the crime was discovered in his vehicle, and a search warrant was later executed at his residence in San Andreas with the assistance of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement officials are currently seeking to identify any additional victims who may have experienced similar incidents involving the suspect. In a public statement, the Sheriff’s Office reminded community members that legitimate law enforcement officers will always provide proper identification and will never request access to cash registers or private funds during routine inspections. Authorities have requested that anyone with further information or surveillance footage contact the Investigative Services Division to assist with the ongoing case.
