Payam Javan: An inmate at Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas is currently on life support following a violent attack in one of the prison’s barracks.
The incident occurred around 12:03 p.m. on Monday when a Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputy performing a routine welfare check found the man unconscious with severe injuries. Emergency services were promptly summoned, and life-saving measures were initiated until EMS arrived at approximately 12:13 p.m.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital where he underwent surgery for traumatic head injuries. Medical professionals have reported that he remains in critical condition.
Preliminary investigations have identified three fellow inmates as the perpetrators of the assault. The attack took place in a large, open dormitory-style area with rows of metal bunk beds, offering minimal separation between prisoners.
The three suspects have been moved to Santa Clara County Main Jail and face charges of attempted murder and torture. Authorities are continuing their investigation, with more details expected to emerge as the case progresses.
