$۳۵ Million Settlement Reached: How to Claim Benefits for Faulty GM Trucks

Payam Javan: Chevrolet and GMC truck owners with specific diesel models may be eligible for compensation or other benefits following a $35 million settlement from a class action lawsuit against General Motors. The lawsuit claims that certain 2011-2016 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks equipped with Duramax 6.6L V8 LML engines were fitted with defective high-pressure fuel injection pumps, known as the CP4, which are prone to failure. While General Motors has denied any wrongdoing, they agreed to settle the lawsuit to avoid prolonged litigation, according to a statement from JND Legal Administration.

Truck owners who purchased affected vehicles from authorized GM dealerships in California, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, New York, Pennsylvania, or Texas during the specified period are eligible to file claims. Compensation varies based on ownership status and repair history, with current or former owners receiving payouts ranging from $400 to $12,712, depending on whether they paid for CP4 repairs. In addition, future warranty coverage will be available to those who have not yet repaired the faulty pump, covering 50% of repair costs at GM-authorized dealerships until the trucks reach 200,000 miles or the warranty period ends.

Eligible truck owners can submit claims online, by phone, or via email, with deadlines set for six months after the final settlement hearing on January 21, 2025. Owners seeking reimbursement for future repairs must follow specific procedures, including filing a Reimbursement Request Form within 60 days of the repair. The final approval of the settlement will determine when the warranty program begins and the total amount paid out to claimants.
